DESCRIPTION
The Morgan Plus 8 is a sports car built by British car makers Morgan between 1968 and 2004. Its instant and enduring popularity has been widely credited with saving the company during the 36 years of its manufacture. Design and development of the Plus 8 was led by Maurice Owen, a race car engineer taken on specifically for the role. The development car used a Rover V8 block and the Plus 8 was launched in 1968 using Rover's production engine. The Plus 8 prototype was based on a modified version of the chassis of the Plus 4, to which it added the Rover 3.5 litre V8, purchased from GM-Buick in 1967. The Plus 4's 4-speed manual Moss gearbox with synchromesh on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th was carried over and the Salisbury 7HA axle was uprated with a limited slip differential.
The FIA papered Morgan Plus 8 offered here is one of the most famous of its kind. An HSCC Roadsports outright winner, this car is well-known on the race circuits throughout the UK and Europe, and its competitive days are far from being over! Offered for sale fully prepared to a very high standard for competitive racing, "JSA 177G' benefits from a newly built John Eales race engine and a totally refurbished Moss gearbox, both have been tested but unraced.
This capable Plus 8 with Indigo Blue paintwork, black trim, HSCC badging and roundels is in desperate need of an entrant number and is ready to race immediately and eligible for all sorts of prestigious events including Spa 6 hours, Tour Auto, Nürburgring Old Timer and many others.
Despite the racing set-up and FIA eligibility, this car is also incredibly road tractable. Offered for sale with road tax and with current MoT test certificate, JSA 177G will take you to, around and home from the race track...ideally laden with silverware!
