DESCRIPTION
In the 14 years of production Jaguar made no less than 70,000 E-Types. This was made easier by it's stunning looks, high performance, competitive pricing and a comment from a certain Enzo Ferrari that it was the most beautiful car in the world. The series II is consistently regarded as the best to drive ~ not least because the refinements had evolved from 7 years production of the series 1 and British Leyland hadn't yet arrived to mess it up!
This series II 4.2 Roadster is one of just 8,628 produced which feature open headlights, a wrap around rear bumper, repositioned larger front indicators and tail lights below the bumpers. It was also better cooled by it's enlarged 'mouth' and twin electric fans and also featured better brakes.
Dispatched from the factory on 9th December 1969 as a UK right hand drive car to Henly's of London. The car was first registered on 5th of January 1970 to a Mr. J. Mercardo of London W2 with his private registration number '670F'. It was and still is finished in Primrose Yellow with black leather upholstery and a black hood with factory wire wheels.
More interestingly it arrived at the doors of Henry Pearman's wonderful company, Eagle E-Types, in 2002 where Henry started to look at the series II as a sales proposition for the first time. (Up to this point Eagle had specialised purely in refining and developing the series I)
Initial development work included designing and fitting a new type of seat with greater lateral and lumbar support, fitting a new developmental type of power steering to improve driver response and upgrades to both the suspension and brakes. Wider wire wheels with more modern and lower profile Pirelli tyres were also fitted to further improve the handling and ride compromise. It also benefitted from a light restoration which included a repaint, some rechroming and the fitting of a new hood. Before too much more work was done the car was unsurprisingly sold and kept by it's new keeper until 2009 when it was purchased by Silverstone Auctions owner, Nick Whale. Enjoyed and driven by him it was then sold on in 2010 to our vendor, who has maintained the car properly with a service and MOT every year, although covering very little mileage. He fitted new 'Gaz' shock absorbers all round in 2011 on the advice of his local service specialist, E-Type UK, and the car has covered just 2000 miles in his 4 year ownership.
Offered here today, purely because of lack of use, is an interesting and very beautiful original E-Type that benefits from matching numbers on the chassis, engine and gearbox and has benefitted with subtle upgrades from the expertise of one of the world's leading marque experts.
A fantastic opportunity!
