1970 Lotus Elan plus 2S

The Lotus Elan +2 was introduced in 1967 with a longer wheelbase and two more rear seats than the original Elan. It was advertised ... 'for the discerning motorist who requires the renowned Lotus roadholding and performance coupled to an attractive two plus two body'.

This car has been modified for trackday, sprint and hillclimb use, although it has a valid MoT and historic tax disc. It has been built to the following specification:

Engine - QED built bottom end using a 711M Tall block with Lotus Pistons (82.5mm bore and 77,6mm stroke) with external master kill switch; Balanced longthrow crank; QED Q420 cams (High lift giving excellent torque figures at low rpm yet producing c150bhp at 6500rpm); QED Vernier timing gear; Big wing centrally baffled sump; Goodridge Aeroquip hoses; HP/HC Burton oil pump; 13 row oil cooler; 26R style Alloy radiator and header tank; Pacet Electric fan; Lucas distributor, modified by Aldon to exact engine specification; Magnecor 43D lead set; high performance coil; Fresh wiring looms (Dash/Main/Tail); new fuel pressure regulator; Suspension rebuild with new spax adjustables (391FX front and 4954 rear); 150lb front springs (11" - 1.9" id); 120lb rear springs (12" - 4.25" od); Spyder rear nickel-plated oval section A-frames with recently renewed nuts/bolts; Polybushed throughout; Quick rack (2.5 turns lock to lock); 26R spec alloy rack clamps / shims; 26R spec Steering UJ; Small leather rim steering wheel; Twin 40 DCOE's jetted to engine spec; Pipercross induction system; New Clutch Master, Plate and slave cylinders in 2012 with no miles since; 2 x new 26R spec intermediate drive shafts (sliding spine); Diff top mount kit; diff brace bar; 5.5" x 13 steel 'knock-ons' shod with Avon CR66 185/70/13 historic treaded A31 'soft' compound (Sport) tyres; Brakes overhauled with servo removed; New master cylinder; Standard Girling discs and calipers; Green Stuff Front and TTR rear pads; Goodrich braiding throughout.

The interior is firewalled from the boot which houses a foam filled alloy 45 litre race tank with new Facet fuel pump and red top battery and box. Inside the car is a new full roll cage, fully plumbed in Zero 2000 fire extinguisher life line with hand held extension and a new Cobra Profit drivers seat and in date 5 point Sabelt harness complete the interior.
