1970 Lotus Elan +2 Cabriolet Conversion

The original Elan was introduced in 1962 as a roadster, although an optional hardtop was offered in 1963 and a coupé version in 1965. The two-seat Lotus Elan replaced the elegant, but unreliable and expensive to produce Lotus EliteThe Elan was technologically advanced with a twin-cam 1558cc engine, 4-wheel disc brakes, and 4-wheel independent suspension. It is estimated that fewer than 1,200 of these cars remain on the roads today. Their relative rarity, beautiful lines, impressive performance and practicality are the main factors for the rising interest on these cars among collectors.On offer today is a part completed project of a 1970's +2 Elan. Having started life as a coupé, the vendor decided he wanted his version to be a roadster and so the chassis was strengthened, and the roof removed. Other interests have prevailed and this car has never been completed, now being offered for someone else to steal the glory. Since catalogue photography, many of the parts in the accompanying wine crates will be replaced onto the car ahead of the auction. The engine has been rebuilt, and is reported to idle very happily. The remainder of the project requires only cosmetic completion in the vendor's opinion.
