DESCRIPTION

In the late '50s and early 60's Major Arthur Mallock started to build "his idea" of a low cost and winning sprint, circuit and hill climb car. The result was The U2 and it almost instantly became a classic. The Mallock family are still at the forefront of motor car race preparation today, with Ray Mallock Racing having notched up Le Mans and Touring Car successes at the highest level and Richard is still involved in the original family business - Mallock Racing.

The Mk 8 was a logical development for the Mallock family of U2 cars, taking to the hills in the early 1970s. It was a common practice for drivers/owners to take their cars back to Mallock for the latest "tweaks" and upgrades as the seasons went on. It really was a process of constant development from weekend to weekend. The short Course Record holder at Harewood remembers "The Major" stalking the paddock looking at the opposition such as Centaurs, seeking out any new developments and innovations. The cars came with either Formula Ford based engines, known as 'B'Sport, or full race 1700 cross-flow engines (giving 175bhp), known as 'A' Sport specification.

This is the ex-Norris "Norrie" Galbraith multiple SMRC Championship Winning car, in Clubman's 1600cc 'B' Sport specification. It has had a recent full workshop session and the reluctant vendor notes that " It just needs new seat belts belts and an in date fire extinguisher to be put straight back on the track or hills!" There is a flourishing "Historic Clubmans" series which would welcome this machine with open arms. Can there be a more realistically priced machine to go racing with at today's sale? A proven winner at sub £10,000.
