DESCRIPTION

The '703' was the first Formula 3 car built by March Engineering, which was formed by Max Mosley, Alan Rees, Graham Coaker and Robin Herd in 1969.

No less than sixteen 703s were built in 1970 and the car offered here is chassis number 703-2, which was run by Petonyer Racing in 1970, primarily being driven by the late Tom Walkinshaw and renowned historic racer, Ian Ashley.

During this time the car was also competitively driven by the likes of Dave Morgan, Colin Vandervell and Geoff Bremner.

This car, 703-2, went on to spend its later years in the USA competing in Formula C racing until returning to 'Blighty' in 2001, when it was totally rebuilt by historic F3 expert John Counsell.

The engine was rebuilt by 1000cc 'Screamer' specialist, Tony Steele, and given a complete rebuild including new crank, rods and pistons. At the same time the Hewland 4 speed gear box was rebuilt by PDS with a new 7/31 crown wheel and pinion and subsequently the car has covered no more than 270 test and race miles. Complete with new Mike Barnby March split rim patterned wheels and correct papers, this car is now eligible to enter competitively in both British and European 1000cc Historic Formula 3.
