DESCRIPTION

The MGC had the potential to be a very good selling sports car because it offered everything the MGB lacked and was very attractively priced. As the British Leyland Group took control the MGC was dropped in favour of the Triumph products that BL favoured. The MGC would have been in direct competition to the TR6. Two lightweight race versions were built, RMO 699F and MBL 546E affectionately known as "Romeo and Mable' competing in the Targa Florio and Sebring. HRH Prince of Wales used his MGC GT extensively in the seventies. Offered here is a modified MGC that was raced in period by Mark Burnside. Our vendor is only the second owner of this significant car which came into his prossession in 2010. At that point the engine was rebuilt by Steve James Engineering incorporating new Cosworth pistons, valves and new valve seats. The crankshaft and rods were crack tested and the Dellorto's were set up to produce 280 BHP. The front suspension is rose-jointed and the rear axle has tramp bars fitted. The gearbox is a 5-speed T5 Borg Warner and completes with a limited slip differential. This MGC is a very quick car which held various lap records in its day. It now offers numerous options for competition. With it's period history the prospect of gaining historic papers could be a very worthwhile proposition.
