DESCRIPTION
Son of Stingray, American looks in a European package...The petite Opel GT started as a design concept, initiated to bring a dash of glamour to the Opel stand for the 1965 Paris and Frankfurt shows. It certainly managed that, with such a positive reaction to the “mini-Corvette”, its looks reminiscent of the mega star Stingray, that GM decided to put it into production.
Based on the Kadett platform, it was initially available with either a 1.1-litre or 1.9-litre engine &ndas
02/6 Contact made requested photos (RG)h; a strange choice, with the majority being sold with the larger engine. The voluptuous body with manual pop-up lights was made in France by Brissonneau and Lotz (better known for making trains than cars), but the project was a success with more than 103,000 finding buyers before production came to a halt in 1973.
Having owned the car for over 16 years, this fabulous 1970 Opel GT has been subject to a 'very long and slow' restoration by our vendor. It's a left-hand drive, 4-speed, manual fitted with the 1.9 ltr, cam in head, engine with the Weber option and a limited slip differential. This car was first imported from Germany in the late 80s and first registered in the UK in 1990. Using original Opel parts throughout, it has been returned to its best mechanically, internally and externally and a new set of period correct wheels set it off nicely. A new carb and recent service, now means the car runs as well as it looks, and it is currently MoTd.
The Opel GT was once described as “impossibly pretty” and they are now becoming rare, especially in this superb condition.
