DESCRIPTION

The Fiat 500 was produced by Fiat in Italy between 1957 and 1975. It was designed by Dante Giacosa and it captured the hearts and minds of the public throughout Europe, becoming the first genuine city car. Only 3 metres long and powered by a 479cc, 2 cylinder, air cooled engine it was both nippy and easy to park. The 'L' version (Lusso or Luxury!) was produced between 1968 and 1972 and featured a much improved and modernised interior, complete with a new dashboard design, proper heating and ventilation and better seats.

This particular car was acquired by Fiat in the UK to use for promotion and advertising at the launch of the new Fiat 500 in 2008. A team of three Fiat Master technicians were given just 3 weeks to completely rebuild and restore the little car, including an engine rebuild and rotisserie repaint. The idea was to show off the build quality and longevity of the original 500.

It is finished in its original colours of red with black interior and is a "matching numbers' UK right hand drive car, using the original engine and gearbox. The technicians took the opportunity to take the engine out to 650cc during the engine rebuild, which is a popular modification and upgrade giving the car an extra 20% power.

Offered today with a total mileage indicated of 73,500, but only a handful of these since its thorough and professional restoration.

This is highly collectable example and very faithful to the original, it also offers exceptional value for money today in this price range.
