SUMMARY

Thunderous 7.5-litre V8 will cause a stir in the paddock!

DESCRIPTION

A car that has been in competition use since 1989

Currently in the livery of Nascar racer Joey Logano

Most recently driven at the Spa Summer Classic

A welcome entrant to Bernie"s V8, CSCC Future Classis, Birkett 6 hours and Spa 6 hours.

Introduced in August 1968 for the 1969 model year, the Mach 1 was a performance-orientated option package for the Ford Mustang. In 1971 the Mach 1 started with a base engine of 302 cu.in.Windsor motor, with a 2-barrel carburettor, followed by four optional 351 Cleveland engines, the 2-V, 4-V, the Cobra Jet and the H.O Boss 351. Famously, a "71 Mustang Mach 1 was featured in the James Bond film Diamonds are Forever.

This particular car was converted to race specification in February 1989 by Global West in Montclair, California, for the owner, Jerry Mockenhaupt. A race engine and further race preparation were completed in 1995 by David Dralle and the car painted in Ford Competition Orange and Black. During this period it competed on the West Coast of the US at circuits like Willow Creek.

When our vendor purchased the car in November 2014 the engine was expiring and needed replacing, so a fresh Peter Knight 302ci, small bl0ck Windsor V8 engine was sought, the specification of which includes:

Stroked to 347 cu.in. = 5.686 litre

Engine builder Peter Knight 2014, 4.125 Bore / 3.25 Stroke / 5.400 Rod

Dart Block, 8.200 Deck Height, 4 bolt main caps, Siamese bores. Scat 3.25 Steel Crank, Scat 5.400 H beam Steel rods.

Mahle Forged Pistons, flat top, 10.5:1 Compression Ratio.

Clevite 77 H series bearings throughout. Iskenderian competition roller camshaft & roller lifters.

Brodix T1 Heads, ARP fasteners throughout.

Holley 50 twin float carburettor, fuel pressure regulated to 6psi.

Ron Davis radiator and 2 oil radiators.

3-inch header exhaust crossover system, 3-inch to the rear. Internally balanced,

MSD ignition. Uses Shell Optimax 97 pump fuel.

Dyno tested in 2014: 505 bhp @ 7000 rpm and 425 Lb.Ft @ 5300 rpm

Centre Force clutch and pressure plate.

Top loader 4-speed gearbox with Hirst shifter, H-pattern

In 2015 the car was developed further including new suspension all round, a new 3.7 diff, steering column bearings, new wiring and headlights, rain light, and fire extinguisher.

The car is painted in the colours of Nascar racer Joey Logano and our vendor's race programme would typically include; 750MC Bernie"s V8"s, Castle Coombe GT"s, CSCC Future Classics, 750MC Birkett 6 hour relay & Spa 6 hours and BARC SE MSN Saloons. In June of this year, our vendor had a good weekend in the car competing at the Spa Summer Classic. We recommend that all buyers satisfy themselves as to the currency and legality of all safety equipment in the car.

Now surplus to requirement as our vendor embarks on other motorsport projects, this thunderous V8 offers superb value at today"s guide price.
