DESCRIPTION
The E-Type is a British automobile legend that was manufactured by Jaguar been 1961 and 1975. It is a combination of good looks, high performance, and competitive pricing. In period, a Ferrari cost three times more and supplied less horse power, this helped establish the marque as an icon of 1960s motoring. The model became a great success for Jaguar, with more than 70,000 E-Types being sold during its lifespan. On its release, Enzo Ferrari called it "The most beautiful car ever made".The model was made in three distinct versions which are now generally referred to as "Series 1", "Series 2" and "Series 3". A transitional series between Series 1 and Series 2 is known, unofficially, as "Series 1½".A 2+2 version of the coupé was added in 1966. The 2+2 offered the option of an automatic transmission. The body is 9ins (229 mm) longer and the roof angles are different with a more vertical windscreen.
This pretty Primrose Yellow example, showing 64500 on the odometer, originally left the factory in 1971 as a LHD 2+2 Coupe in blue and was delivered to the USA.
It was re-imported and first registered in the UK in October 1988 and was subsequently converted to a RHD roadster and re-sprayed. It benefits from having the original 5.3 US specification engine, seats and carpets. With the dashboard, boot and rear stowage box having been recently being re-trimmed.
We are informed that the engine provides excellent oil pressure and the recently balanced carbs enable smooth running.
The bodywork is good and straight and we are informed by the vendor that with its four speed manual gearbox and power assisted steering it is a joy to drive.
With an estimate of approximately 50% of an original roadster in current market conditions, this has to make for true value for money "V12' motoring.
