DESCRIPTION
The Jaguar E-Type is a British automobile legend, manufactured by Jaguar been 1961 and 1975. It is a combination of good looks, high performance, and competitive pricing. In period, a Ferrari cost three times more and supplied less horse power which established the marque as an icon of 1960s motoring. The model became a great success for Jaguar, with more than 70,000 E-Types being sold during its lifespan. On its release, Enzo Ferrari called it "The most beautiful car ever made".
The model was made in three distinct versions which are now generally referred to as "Series 1", "Series 2" and "Series 3". A transitional series between Series 1 and Series 2 is known, unofficially, as "Series 1½".
A 2+2 version of the coupé was added in 1966. The 2+2 offered the option of an an automatic transmission. The body is 9 in (229 mm) longer and the roof angles are different with a more vertical windscreen.
This "last of the 6 cylinder" E-Type 4.2s has been the subject of a full and extensive mechanical restoration in 2008 and has covered very few road miles since. The work covered, but not exclusively, included a full stainless steel sports exhaust system including tubular manifolds. A set of wide section chrome wheels were fitted, along with new white band tubeless-tyres. A set of "Gaz" fully adjustable dampers and new rear road springs were fitted to go with a complete rear axle overhaul, incorporating a fully rebuilt differential.
As far as brakes go, the calipers, hoses, pads, discs and mountings were replaced with brand new items. A fully programable electronic ignition system was fitted. The carbs have been rebuilt and balanced using new needle valves, seats and seals. A Fuel King fuel filter is now installed. The front suspension has been totally stripped and is now rebuilt following rebushing and the engine bay has been carefully detailed. The car is set off by a fully retrimmed sage green leather interior and a Moto Lita sports steering wheel.
'ALG 888 J' comes with a Production Record Trace Certificate, Number 28795 from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust and is said to drive very well. It represents value in the rapidly ascending E-Type market today.
