DESCRIPTION
The 'Europa' concept originated during 1963 with drawings by Ron Hickman, then director of Lotus Engineering. The Europa S2, or Type 54, was introduced in April 1968. It offered a number of refinements from its predecessors including electric windows, fully adjustable seats, a new interior, and a polished wooden fascia for the dashboard.
This iconic Lotus Europa Coupé was retrieved locally from a derelict garage after spending 20 years on blocks due to a snow accident some years previously. Completely stripped to a bare chassis, it was sent to Spyder Engineering who fitted a new front cross member, re-jigged, shot blasted and re-powder coated it. The engine when dismantled was found to be in good condition and was reassembled with new piston rings, bearings, gaskets and seals. The bodywork was cleaned, repaired and repainted in the iconic Gold Leaf colours seen here.
All mechanical parts were cleaned inspected and replaced if necessary. Most of the parts were supplied by Banks Europa Engineering, Lancashire. The car is fitted with new adjustable dampers and new road springs, all new metal brake pipes and "Aeroquip" flexible hoses. Reconditioned front brake callipers, new rear brake cylinders and brake cables. New silicon water hoses, new carpets and dashboard complete the restoration which saw the original interior trim cleaned and repaired as appropriate.
The vendor has tried as far as possible to reuse original parts if in good condition. It is fitted with the classic Ford/Lotus Twin Cam engine with twin Dellorto carburettors.
There is a full photographic record of rebuild along with large amounts of receipts.
This "pocket rocket' is a cost effective entry into 1970's classic cars and is sure to turn heads on track days and historic events alike.
