DESCRIPTION

The basic Porsche 911 design has been in constant production since its introduction in 1963. Only in 1998 did the air-cooled six cylinder engine revert to water cooling. Throughout its life the 911 has been subject to engine capacity increases and upgrades to satisfy an eager following. At the beginning of the 1970's the 911 carried on as a mainstay of Porsche production and it would underpin an incredible period of motorsport competition. Following Sportscar rule changes in racing, the Porsche 917 was no longer eligible and Porsche switched to GT racing using the 911 as a production basis. The introduction of the 911 2.7 RS heralded the beginning of a remarkable run in competitions worldwide. An evolution, the 911 Carrera RSR won the Daytona 24 Hours virtually out of the box in 1973 for the Brumos Porsche Team against World Sports Car Prototypes. In the same year an RSR won the Targa Florio driven by Herbert Muller and Gijs van Lennep.

In 1971 the D-Series was introduced and Porsche paid more attention to galvanising body parts. 1972 would be the last year of 2.2 litre engines.

Offered today is a very usable ex California, left hand drive, 1971 Targa with the benefit of a 2.2S engine which has had a top end rebuild within the last 15,000 miles. Finished in Ocean blue with black trim, it represents an opportunity to either improve or simply enjoy as a usable Targa. On file is a letter of authenticity from Porsche GB. The car now benefits from a full MOT.

Early 1970's 911 Porsches are charismatic cars with values rising steadily to preserve their investment appeal, moreover, they are great to drive, especially in the summer with the open Targa experience...
