DESCRIPTION
A fast appreciating sports car in the classic colour of Burnt Orange...The launch of the Datsun 240Z was well timed, coinciding neatly with the end of production of the Healey 3000 and fulfilling the role as the Healey's natural successor. It emulated the Healey's rally successes, achieving great results on track and stage, including an outright victory on the East African Safari in both '71 and '73, and this translated into an instant sales success on both sides of the Atlantic. It was particularly successful in the USA, where it was competitively priced when compared with both domestic and rival imported competition, making it the best-selling sports car in the world at that time.
The lusty 2.4 ltr straight six, overhead cam engine delivered over 150bhp and gave the car a 0-60mph time of around 8 seconds and a top speed of 125mph. A five-speed manual gearbox was standard and the car featured independent suspension all round, with MacPherson struts at the front and Chapman struts at the rear. Rack and pinion power steering and front disc brakes enhanced the package still further.
This right-hand drive, original UK car was first registered in January 1972 and was purchased by our vendor about three years ago, and we understand that the odometer is currently reading 27,143 miles.
This car previously benefitted from detailed improvements by the former owner - including a professional re-trim (seats, carpets and door cards) as well as refurbished wheels, new tyres, re-chromed bumpers, rubber bumper inserts, reconditioned fuel tank, new clutch, new scuff plates, door mirrors, door locks and seals, tailgate light and badges. The standard specification has been enhanced by the fitting of a modern stereo system with I-Pod and Bluetooth facilities and electric windows.
Sensibly guided, this car represents an excellent opportunity to acquire an increasingly well-regarded seventies sports car that is now gaining momentum in the collectors market.
