1972 Fiat 500L

The Fiat 500 was produced by Fiat S.p.A (Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino) between 1957 and 1975, limited production of the Fiat 500 K estate continued until 1977. The car was designed by Dante Giacosa, and despite its diminutive size, the '500' proved to be an enormously practical and popular vehicle throughout Europe. It captured the hearts and minds of the public until production ended in 1975.

Launched as the Nuova (new) 500 in July 1957 it was marketed as a cheap and practical town car. Measuring only 3 metres long, and originally powered by a tiny 479 cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine, the 500 redefined the term "small car" and it is considered to be one of the first 'city cars'. The 'L' or Lusso penultimate model, like the car offered here today, was produced between 1968 and 1972. It featured a much modernised interior including a renewed dashboard which brought the Fiat 500 up to date. Greater comfort and style were provided in this new model for a new generation.

We are informed by the vendor that this beautifully restored little Fiat 500 is a genuine UK RHD matching numbers car. With only three owners from new (it is reported the first two owners were in the same family) this car has been the subject of much care and attention over the years and it shows. Restored in 2009 by a local garage in Dorchester who had known the car from virtually new the attention to detail is absolutely superb.

Finished in Baby Blue with contrasting Tan interior, this is a real head turner and would make a very comfortable, quirky, and economical car for using around town. The paintwork is reported to be in superb order throughout and is complimented by excellent chrome work all round. The vendor was keen to keep the restoration as close to original as possible, thus both engine and gearbox are the original items that have had sympathetic maintenance over the years to keep them in superb fettle.

We are informed by the vendor that there is a good history file, along with previous MOTs going back to 1994 and as such the mileage of just under 31000 is warranted. Sold with an MOT until May 2015 and taxed until April 15 this charming little car is ready to be driven and enjoyed.
