DESCRIPTION

The triple Le Mans winning Jaguar D-type will need little introduction. Following on from the C-type's victories in 1951 and 1953, the D-type, with its then state of the art chassis encompassing a central monocoque section, improved rear suspension and a more powerful XK engine, handsomely won the Vingt Quatre Heures du Mans in 1955, 1956 and 1957. Among the most desirable of collectors' cars worldwide today even the "customer" cars - let alone the factory works cars - nowadays fetch millions and for most of us therefore the only alternative is to acquire or commission a replica.

Excellently engineered and developed in 1997 from a Le Mans Sportscar Company replica kit, "YJI 37' is tremendously quick with thanks to its 4.2litre powerplant from a 1972 Jaguar XJ6 donor as the V5C reflects. Offered with a wonderful patina befitting the real thing, this is a fabulous looking car - a little rough around the edges as a D-Type should look - but no less likely to turn heads and put a wide smile across your face. The gorgeous but costly replica Dunlop wheels of the original pattern are shod with new-in-2010 Michelin period looking tyres. This car boasts a history file comprising of a host of correspondence between owners, stacks of invoices and receipts for the work that has been undertaken throughout its life and other related notes. It has formed part of a large private collection and although it has been awarded a fresh MoT ahead of the sale, it hasn't stretched its legs properly since late 2011. We would reasonably recommend that the buyer consider a minor engine service before subjecting the car to the aggressive use of which it is eminently capable.Don't hesitate to own and enjoy such a motor car.
