SUMMARY
áThe most desirable and collectable of all the Fulvias.á
DESCRIPTION
An original, UK-supplied, 1972 Fulvia Zagato Sport 1600 from the final production run. The Sport 1600 Zagato is the most desirable and collectable of all the Fulvias Fully restored including body shell, retrimmed black leather interior, engine bay detailed to a show-standard Rebuilt engine, new clutch, brakes, exhaust, steering, carburettor rebuild, and final set-up 3 former owners from new. First being the DJ, David Jacobs. Original handbook, service book, and toolkit. The Lancia Fulvia was available in three distinct variants: Berlina four-door saloon, two-door coupÚ, and Sport, an alternative fastback coupÚ designed and built by Zagato on the coupÚ floor-pan. Introduced in 1967 with the 1,298cc (87bhp) engine, the Zagato was later offered with the 1600cc, 115bhp HF unit, a sparkling combination with a top speed approaching 120mph. A five-speed gearbox was standard equipment from 1971. Production ceased after Zagato had manufactured around 7,000 cars, a mere 800 of which were the ultimate 1600cc version. Lighter and nimbler than the standard-bodied cars, the Sport distinguished itself in competition, particularly in long distance events. Fulvia Sport Zagato's scored highly in the Sebring 12 Hours and Daytona 24 Hours (where a Sport earned a class win in 1969). Ex-works HF rally cars aside, the Sport Zagato is the most desirable and collectable of all the Fulvias and undeniably one of the most striking designs of its era. The 1600 engined Sport was distinguished by a matte black radiator grille with bright edges, black rubber over-riders on the bumpers, a matte black band on the engine bonnet, and new flush door handles. Inside, the 1600 had an oil temperature gauge, bucket seats with headrests and electric front windows as standard. Cromodora alloy wheels like those found on the 1600 HF were optional. Offered here is an original, UK-supplied, 1972 Fulvia Zagato Sport 1600 from the final production run. Of the 74 right-hand drive cars built, it is thought that less than 30 survive today and they are not often found for sale. It's in fully restored condition with exceptional panel and paintwork. The restoration included preparing the bodyshell for a full professional repaint in its original White, the interior retrimmed in black leather, the engine bay detailed to a show-standard, rebuilt engine, new clutch, brakes, exhaust, steering etc., Lastly, a carburettor rebuild and final set-up have just been completed at Omicron Engineering so driving and road manners are a delight and the MoT is valid until June 2019. This sparkling little Fulvia has an interesting history with only three former owners from new (the first owner being the broadcaster and DJ, David Jacobs), is matching numbers, and comes complete with its original handbook, service book, warranty card and toolkit. These period, coach-built motor cars are becoming more and more sought after and this rare example seems very reasonably guided considering the amount of time, money and love invested in it.
