DESCRIPTION
1972 marked the arrival of the 2.4 litre Porsche 911S, the technical advances in developing this vehicle forming the engineering foundation for the landmark Carrera RS of the following model year•The McPherson strut and trailing arm geometry which remained unchanged right up to the 964 model of the 1990s•The first aerodynamic aid with the lip on the front bumper spoiler•The totally new 915 transmission carried through up to the G50 transmission of 1987•The long stroke engine bottom end, that ran through to the 3.2 Carrera of 1984•The low compression engines that are still happy on to-day's low octane unleaded fuel•The optimally located oil tank ahead of the rear wheel, pioneered in the 911R of 1968 and reverted to in the "90's cars, market forces meant this was sadly abandoned for the RS and 1973 models.
The advances made in the 1972 models are where the 911 technical evolution settled into a more modern pattern, whilst for the 1972-73 model years retained the more classic style of the old.Add to this the improved stability and the enlarged 2.4-litre flat-6 engine, and it is easy to see how these changes and detail improvements all served to produce a car which rewards the driver with a gutsy, tenacious driving experience.
The car offered here is an original LHD example with its matching numbers engine, confirmed by its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. First registered in March 1972, this 2.4 911S Coupe is presented in its original Light Ivory with a black interior. The car was initially built for the Italian market, moved to France in '73 and spent most of its life in West Paris, before being imported to the UK by Autofarm in 1997 at only 69,000 mls.In excellent order inside, outside and underneath, and on its period alloys this specimen drives as a 911S should. After an engine rebuild in 2001, only some 16,000 miles ago, a rolling road test in 2006 still produced an impressive 196 bhp., and the car has clocked just 5,000 miles since a gearbox overhaul by Autofarm in 2012. The period correct Blue Spot radio sits happily where it could have done for the last 43 years, and the interior has benefited from a complete re-trim in the correct original black materials by Southbound, including the period correct Recaro sports seats.Recent owners have been diligent in the car's cosmetic upkeep, the car coming with a quality fitted indoor cover. Even the smallest blemishes received their full attention, the current owner having been a very recent Director of the Porsche Club GB. The fitting of a stainless steel exhaust, pressure-fed tensioners, and a full set of Bilsteins further cement the level of care and maintenance lavished on this little Porsche, mainly by respected marque specialists Autofarm, who have been charged with looking after its health for the last eighteen years. An extensive history file, dating back to the 1970s comes with the car.
It's now in excellent order and would make a superb addition to any car enthusiasts' garage.
