Late Entry - Lot 355A - 1972 Porsche 911 2.4S

The Porsche 911 celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this year and it has featured consistently in the top ten cars of our generation throughout that period. With a motorsport pedigree unsurpassed by any other car with true production underpinnings its not surprising the 911 has endeared itself to the world. The 911 came of age at the beginning of the seventies, with wins at the Daytona 24hrs and the Targa Florio. Steve McQueen had put his Slate Grey 911S in the minds of a world audience with his film Le Mans a few years earlier.

The 1972 Porsche 911S had two major revisions, the engine was increased to 2341cc and an aggresive new front spoiler incorporated below the bumper. The engine now produced a healthy 190bhp giving a 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds, weight was a respectable 1050kgs.

The specification of this 911S is very much regarded as the ultimate S specification. Its the 1972 911S 2.4, oil filler on the right-hand rear wing, no sunroof, no rear wiper making it virtually a lightweight and LHD. Whilst being a very usable 911S, few examples still exist in this pre-restored condition and so unmolested. This is a matching numbers 911 and must give an excellent opportunity to a prospective buyer to invest in the preservation of such an iconic Porsche. The steady rise in value of these 911s shows no sign of abating with fine restored examples now into six figures.
