DESCRIPTION

The Porsche RSR was introduced in 1973 with a 2.8 litre engine and was to be aimed at racing teams who wanted an "off the shelf' racing car to compete at the highest level. Predominantly, this would be long distance endurance racing, such as the Le Mans 24 hours and such like events. Only 49 of the 2.8 litre engined cars were produced as factory-built customer racing cars, making them some of the rarest Porsches ever made. For the '74 season, significant improvements were made to the RSR, with the introduction of a new, more powerful 3.0 litre engine, wider track which allowed for wider centre-lock wheels, body improvement and 917 brakes. These revisions translated to fine results on the race track, with 3 RSR's finishing in the top ten at the 1974 Le Mans 24 hours, with one car even finishing 2nd overall.

In 2002 this car was built from an original 1972 911 E to 2.7 RS Narrow body specification by Porsche stalwart Paul Edwards. He went on to race the car in the Porsche Club GB Championship for the following 3 seasons with great success.

A further evolution of the car came in 2007 when it was decided to rebuild it to '73 2.8 RSR Wide-Body Specification in readiness for the 2008 Le Mans Classic. However that particular year, there were a plethora of Porsche entries into the event and the organisers felt that a variety of cars was needed for each Plateau, and so this car was not granted an entry for that reason. The next stage of development was to rebuild the engine to 3.0 RSR specification which was duly undertaken. This included original twin plug heads.

In 2012 the car was subject to a comprehensive refresh by Porsche factory recommended specialist Parr Motorsport, with bills in the history file totalling more than £25,000. Upon purchase of the car, our vendor sourced an original set of correct period Fuchs wheels at the cost in excess of $10,000 USD.

Technical Specification:

•Correct 3.0 RSR on butterfly stacks

•Brakes: 917 style brakes with twin master cylinders

•Suspension: Bilstein with rear coil overs

In the hands of our vendor, himself a successful ex-World Endurance Championship racer and multiple British Modsports Champion, this car showed its pedigree by winning on its last 2 outings in September 2014 at the Circuit Remparts D'Angouleme. Taking the spoils in the "Henri Pescarolo grid' and the Allcomers Scratch Race, it proved to be the fastest GT car of the event.

This car has a full MSA/FIA Historic Technical Passport to FIA Class: GTS27 granted on 30.4.12 and is ready to race. It is also UK road registered making it the perfect tool for road touring or rally tours.

Eligible for a variety of blue ribbon motorsport events, this 911 3.0 RSR Replica represents the opportunity to be at the sharp end of the grid in a proven race winning car.
