SUMMARY
Tidy 125cc Yamaha AS3 fitted with a "Vandongan" water-cooled conversion.
DESCRIPTION
- Yamaha were pioneers in the early 1970s with two-stroke race bikes
- Their moto was "What wins on Sunday sells on Monday"
- This Yamaha AS3 is from a private collection and appears to be mostly original and complete
- Not used for some time so may need some recommissioning before use
- Fitted with a period Vandongan water-cooling system conversion
- Great machine for classic race bikes parades
Information from a previous owner - I previously owned this particular bike some years ago. I purchased it from Rene van der Schaaf in Holland and brought it over to the UK. Sadly, Rene is no longer with us but I think he told me the bike had been raced in the Dutch National Championships. The water cooled conversion was by Cees van Dongen who was a successful rider in the 125 GP class back in the 60's, he was also a very talented engineer, hence the water cooled conversion. The barrels and heads were completely new castings and water circulation was by an electric pump which came from a Mercedes Benz car heating system. The bike was in a different colour scheme when i bought it (see pics attached) but I preferred more of a Yamaha racing colours look so had it re-painted as it is now. I eventually sold it to a specialist race bike dealer along with a Yamaha TD1c I had restored
