SUMMARY
DESCRIPTION
The 2000 GTV was introduced in 1971 as the replacement for the 1750 range. Once again the engine was rationalised throughout the range with its displacement increased to 1962cc by changing the bore and stroke. The engine produces 150bhp at 5500rpm with carburettors that were retained for European markets.
Often overlooked, the beautiful 105 Series Coupés have been under-appreciated for a long time. In the retail marketplace there is evidence that these models may have matured, with asking prices approaching £20,000 in many cases. Partly due to their usability, but largely owing to their impressive styling, the GTV has become sought after and a great alternative as a classic GT. The 105 was an extremely well specified car in its day with a 5-speed gearbox and discs all round, not to mention the LSD; even by today's standards the GTV is spritely and exhilarating to drive.
Finished in Rosso Corsa with contrasting black leather interior this particular Alfa Romeo looks absolutely superb from any angle. We are informed by the vendor that in 1997 the car was subject to a 13 month restoration by BenAlfa Performance cars. It has been repainted and restored to a very high standard with superb fit and finish and has a meticulously kept history file. We are informed that up to the point of restoration the mileometer reading was 49500 and was then reset, the current mileage reading is 21577 giving a total mileage reading of 70077. We must point out that UUU 697M was subject to an insurance claim in April of 1993 but this does not detract from the quality of work and attention to detail, incredibly this car has bills and invoices totalling £37413.77.
The mechanicals were not neglected either, the engine was fully rebuilt including crank, pistons and the clutch was dynamically balanced, gearbox rebuilt and all suspension parts also rebuilt at the same time. The same attention to detail was carried into the cockpit and as such it looks much as it did when the car was in the showroom back in 1973
Driving this Alfa confirms your expectations, we are informed by the vendor that the rorty four cylinder delivers the kind of sound you want to hear from an Italian sports car. There is a very usable band of power, easily tapped through the 5 speed gearbox, with the engine coming on song around 3000 rpm.
All 105 series Alfas feel remarkably modern and user friendly, its performance is entertaining and satisfying while boot and rear seat space make it a practical proposition for most occasions and is certainly a car you be proud to get out of at any event or function, sold with a fresh MOT this car offers incredible value for money given its very sensible estimate in relation to restoration expenditure.
