1973 Daimler Sovereign 4.2 Series 1 manual with overdrive

The Jaguar XJ6 was launched in 1968 with two engine sizes - 2.8 litre and 4.2 litre - which were both based on the venerable straight six XK engine as used in the E Type. It wasn't a clean sheet design however because under the skin Jaguar cleverly used the ultra-smooth suspension, plus the engine and drivetrain, from the 420G - components that were tried and tested and well ahead of the market.

In October 1969 Jaguar introduced the Daimler variants of the XJ6 models - Daimler Sovereign, Daimler Double Six, Daimler Double Six Vanden Plas - which were essentially the same car with a Daimler grille and higher equipment levels.

The appeal of the Series 1 to enthusiasts is down to its purity of design and its relative rarity. It was also built before British Leyland began influencing Jaguar's activities so product quality is considered to be better. Finished in period lavender blue with contrasting French blue leather interior and with manual overdrive transmission this particular car has led a very sheltered life over the years with very low ownership and mileage.

Bought originally as a company vehicle back in 1973 it stayed with the owner/driver until his retirement in 1976 at which point he then purchased the car from the company as part of his retirement package and it remained in his ownership until he sadly passed away.

The current owner informs us of a six month £5000 "windows out' professional repaint which also included the fitting of a new headlining. Other recent work included new springs and shocks, a complete new set of Avon tyres and sympathetic renovation of the leather interior. Also present is a MOT test certificate, and as you would expect, numerous handbooks, service voucher books, and a large history file, along with a vehicle heritage certificate.

This really is a very special car that deserves to be cherished for years to come.
