DESCRIPTION
Ginetta has played an important part in small volume sportscar construction and club motorsport from its humble origins in Suffolk from the early 1950s. However, it was not until the arrival of the G4 that notable race successes happened and they outshone some established manufacturers. Alongside the core business of car construction the Walklett family continued to produce race cars and Rod Leach once described the G10 as the fasted accelerating road car he had ever driven - including 7-litre Cobras! The G12 race car claimed to be the first-ever British mid-engined GT car. With the introduction of the G15 the brothers had outgrown the Witham Essex premises and a purpose built factory was acquired in Sudbury. Demand was high and they sold direct inviting each potential customer to the factory. With the introduction of the Ginetta G21 at the 1970 Motor Show, Richard Hudson-Evans paid it the ultimate accolade; best car in the show. It also surprised the crash testing centre at MIRA yielding great results on the 30mph impact test. The production of Ginettas still continues with production now in Leeds.
Offered here is a great example of a Ginetta G21S of which only a 150 or so models were made. It is in exceptionally good condition and comes complete with a new MOT. The history file contains a record back to 1978 and substantiates the mileage of only 56,000 miles. It also contains various invoices and expenditure to maintain this very pretty 70's sportscar in the condition we see today.
If it had been for the Yom Kippur War and the economic recession of the early Seventies many more G21's would have been produced, however, in your favour today is that rarity and performance make them an interesting alternative to the mainstream.
