DESCRIPTION
The series III was the final incarnation of the wonderful E-Type Jaguar. Launched in 1971, it was only offered with the 5.3 litre V12 engine (in 2 plus 2 Coupe or Roadster) and now offered a longer wheelbase, larger and better brakes, as well as power steering - all as standard.
This car is a genuine 'barn find' having been acquired new by our vendor's Grandfather in August 1973. The car was always indoor stored before it changed hands to his son in April 1993 (our vendor's Father). Sadly he passed away in September 2014 and it then became the property of his son, our vendor, who is now offering the car directly for sale.
Our vendor's late Father chose not to use the car at all in his ownership and so conciously put the car in to storage as a long term investment. He therefore had the car "properly immobilised", including oil in the cylinders and put it in a brick built barn in 1996 with heating. In 1999 it was moved in to another barn on the estate, this time a wooden one, but stored inside a dehumidified air bubble car storage unit. It stayed there until these barns were acquired in October 2006 which necessitated a final move to a farm shed where the car was 'uncovered' late last year. (see pictures)
The car was originally thought to have covered just 7,700 miles from new. However, over the last few weeks the original service history has now been located confirming the car has infact covered 107,700 miles.
The decision was made in early 2015 to recommission the engine and get the car running in order to pass an MOT. This work was diligently and carefully carried out by Tolman Motorsport of Warwickshire and mostly involved refurbishing the radiator, changing all fluids etc and rebuilding the seized front brakes - all of which is detailed on their invoice.
The car today is therefore presented in very highly original order throughout having covered 107,740 indicated miles from new. All the interior is nicely patinated, the hood is in reasonably good working order, even the spare wheel and tool kit are present. The paint has reacted over time to the moisture in places and thus now requires a repaint. The original chrome has rotted in a few places, such as the rear bumper, and the exhaust is blowing. However, it is a very original car which now offers an opportunity to own a Jaguar V12 E-Type with known single family ownership from new. It starts well, idles happily and the manual gearbox feels positive and accurate.
Offered with a current MOT, original registration documents and V5C, Jaguar Heritage certificate and complete history file.
