DESCRIPTION
The Morgan Plus 8 is a sports car built by British car makers Morgan between 1968 and 2004. Its instant and enduring popularity has been credited with saving the company and keeping the company famous during the 36 years of its manufacture. Among Morgan enthusiasts, it is deeply associated with Peter Morgan, the owner-chairman behind its design.
"43 MOG', arguably the worlds' fastest and most famous Plus 8 continues to add success to her illustrious racing history that started in the 1970s by securing many successes in Class on the Morgan Challenge rounds. With its twin bank of cylinders culminating in 4500cc capacity this enormously powerful car generates 385bhp at the throttle meaning there's many more wins in this car yet, the only difference is you can be driving it...
Formerly owned and built by Morgan specialist Coin Musgrove of Colin Musgrove Racing, the car was successfully campaigned by journalist and racer Tony Dron. At a past outing at Oulton Park, under the stewardship of Russell Paterson of RPM Morgan in Scotland, "43 MOG' qualified just 0.17's of a second behind Keith Ahlers, a well known fellow Plus 8 racer. Race-watchers witnessed a titanic battle between the two powerful +8's for 30 minutes in damp/drying conditions, lap by lap '43 MOG' was gaining on his competition. As they approached the first corner on the last lap, Russell grabbed the chance and passed Keith with both rear wheels locked up. This was an outstanding win for '43 MOG' and just a small taste of what you might achieve behind the wheel.
Eligible in Class A of the Morgan Challenge Series and also selected Masters and Aero Racing Morgan Challenge rounds, "43 MOG' won 9 races in 2011, 7 of which were in Aero Racing Morgan Challenge events, including the added bonus of picking up many fastest laps and setting a new Morgan lap record. By the end of the 2011 Season, '43 MOG' had achieved the highest points score in the Aero Racing Morgan Challenge (Class A) and Class Champion in Masters!
Notable recent results include:"43 MOG' - Class A Champion - Aero Racing - 7 Victories & 4 Seconds - 7 Fastest Laps"43 MOG' - Class A Champion - Masters - 2 Victories & 2 Seconds - 3 Fastest Lap
The engine and gearbox have both just been rebuilt by Rover V8 specialist, John Eales into a brand new block last July. The Getrag gearbox was rebuilt by Hewland at the end of last season so she's ready to continue her winning ways in 2012. "43 MOG" is ready to race and has an enviable past record of success over the years and while it might not be for the fainthearted it has true "race-winning" potential. There are several championships where the car can compete in the UK and Europe and it could be yours…
