1973 Surtees TS 15 F2

Motorcycle and Formula One World Champion legend, John Surtees, formed the Surtees Racing Organisation in 1970 following an illustrious and highly successful driving career. The team, based in Edenbridge, Kent, was to compete competitively up until 1978.

Being ambitious they competed in Formula 5000, Formula 2 and Formula 1 both as a constructor and entrant. Their best season coming in 1972 when motorcycling and driving legend, Mike Hailwood, won the Formula 2 European Championship. Off the back of that strong result achieved in their TS10, ambitions and hopes were high for their '73 car - the TS 15. However, March stole the show by agreeing with BMW a solus supply deal on their M12 two litre Formula 2 engine which was to dominate the series, surpassing the hitherto highly successful Ford 2.0 Cosworth BDA/BDG.

This 1973 car is a rare survivor of that era that was run in period by Bob Gerrard (driven by Bob Salisbury) and has been professionally prepared by Damax Racing to a very high standard indeed. Today it has a 2.0 Ford BDG engine that was freshly built in 2012 to the ultimate specification by Ridgeway Racing Engines, the dyno sheet confirming 285bhp on tap. Unusually it has a Hewland FG400 gearbox, more normally reserved for highly powerful Formula 1 cars of this era, making it a very 'bullet proof' and reliable specification. Carrying full FIA/HTP papers this car is eligible for, and welcome in, all European single seater series throughout the world today. It is a rare, reliable, competitive and beautifully presented package that allows exclusive access in to Historic single seater racing today.
