DESCRIPTION

The MGB is a sports car launched by MG Cars in May 1962 to replace the MGA. Introduced as a four-cylinder roadster, but later joined by a coupé with 2+2 seating in 1965, the MGB was a relatively modern design at the time of its introduction, utilising a monocoque structure instead of the traditional body-on-frame construction.

The lightweight design reduced manufacturing costs while adding to overall vehicle strength. Wind-up windows were standard, and the comfortable driver's compartment offered plenty of legroom. The performance was considered brisk at the time of its introduction, with a 0-60 mph time of just over 11 seconds. The motoring press reckoned that the handling was one of the MGB's strong points. The 3-bearing 1798cc B-Series engine produced 95hp at 5,400rpm.

The MGB on sale today is an exceptionally low mileage "chrome-bumper' model from 1974, it has been much enjoyed by the current owner since 2002. In his ownership he has travelled fewer than 4,000 miles in the car at the time of writing, bringing the total mileage to just 41,000, but don't think this lack of use translates to a lack of care. This car has wanted for nothing from its proud owner. Since 2002, the Citron Yellow "Tweetie', as the car is affectionately known, has been treated to a replacement radiator, the fitment of a Kenlowe fan, the installation of a 123ignition distributor, conversion to a single 12 volt battery, a new clutch, replacement of the lever arm suspension with Gaz adjustable shock absorbers, Tarox brake discs and Greenstuff brake pads to the front. To complete the transformation there are new chrome wire wheels shod with Goodyear tyres. It also has the benefit of a manual gearbox with overdrive. All this combines to deliver a precise and effortless driving experience. This car further benefits from a stainless-steel exhaust system, extensive under-sealing and it has been fully Waxoyled. Finally, there is a Moto-Lita steering wheel (though not currently fitted) which the vendor will include with this Lot.

Since this car is more likely to be used for pleasure journeys than as a daily-driver, these sensible upgrades will serve to give the buyer confidence that it will perform faultlessly on the infrequent occasions it may be called upon. The paintwork is described by the vendor as being in very good overall condition having been re-sprayed in 1989 though there are a few stone chips and slight cracking along some of the seams. Likewise, the wet weather gear and interior trim are termed "good', save for a small tear in the hood side window. Full and half tonneau covers are also sold with this car.
