DESCRIPTION
Since the prototype was unveiled in 1963, the Porsche 911 has gone on to become perhaps the most famous sports car of all time. A classically Germanic blend of engineering excellence and austerely beautiful design, it remains to this day perhaps the only supercar that can be reliably used every day. The 2.7-litre version of the 911 was launched in 1974 with 150bhp and 174lb/ft of torque in standard tune, rising to 210bhp in RS tune. It remained in production until 1977 when it was replaced by the 3.0-litre SC model.
This extremely rare right-hand drive 1974 Porsche 911 2.7 has superb provenance. In total, there are four large history files documenting all expenditure, with a vast number of bills and receipts from marque specialists such as Autofarm and Charles Ivey. VGT 5M was first registered on 21st February 1974 to a Dr Bernard O'Brien of Ormskirk, Lancashire. The original service booklet details early service history, however, due to simply too many stamps, the more recent work has had to be stamped on blank pages.
The significant expenditure on this 911 has been remarkably consistent over the years. However, the vendor states that there are larger bills for the two periods of restoration since 1974. MoT test certificates date back to 1983, which verify the original mileage, and there is a DVLA log file detailing every keeper since new.
A more recent repaint in light Ivory White (Hellelfenbein) ensures the exterior bodywork is bright and the later 930 model seats in black leather provide comfortable support. However, the owner is trying to source an original pair of seats which will be provided, if found, before the auction. The vehicle was serviced last month with new spark plugs, fluids and a replacement battery. The 2.7 engine retains its original Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and it starts on the button. Supplied with a fantastic history, current MoT and bags of 70's swagger, this rare little 911 would make an ideal "daily driver' or would be equally at home in a large collection of Porsches.
