DESCRIPTION

The Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI model was built for all markets, except for the United States and used the 210hp engine from the 1973 Carrera RS making them mechanically identical. Introduced in 1974 on the new G-Series chassis the floor pans were strengthened, lighting was improved and larger bumpers incorporated. With the proven 210bhp, 2,687cc air-cooled horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine on Bosch mechanical fuel injection, 0-60mph was achieved in just over 5 seconds and the car was geared for 150mph through its 5-speed manual transmission. The suspension was fully independent with torsion bars, McPherson struts and anti-roll bars. The total weight was just over 1,075 kilograms, which made the Euro-spec 2.7 MFI a very fast car in its day. In fact, it was the fastest production 911 until the late 1980s. This Carrera is one of, we believe, just five manufactured Targa MFi's and is complete with ducktail spoiler in right-hand drive making it an exceptionally rare treat. #4610253 was delivered by A.F.N Middlesex in July 1974 to Mr Newey of Stratford-upon-Avon. It was sold in 1993/1994 to Mr Perkins of Hampshire, and then again to our vendor in 2002 whereupon he took it to his home on the Isle of Man, registered it there in May of that year and that's where it has remained ever since. Contained in the extensive history file is the original sales invoice from A.F.N confirming this car to be a UK specification Targa in Grand Prix White with Midnight interior, and to be optioned with a Limited Slip Differential. It was assigned the registration mark "WME 94M' which records indicate has not been re-assigned, and which one may reasonably assume could be married back to this car should it remain in the UK after auction. When purchased by our vendor the car was registering a genuine 59,000 miles. Even today, it still displays a mileage in the low 60,000's. There is an MOT showing 14,500 miles in 1978, before picking up annually in 1983 at 33,538 through to 59,303 miles in 2000. Still sporting its original factory GP White and Midnight interior colour scheme, this car presents in all round good original order with no rust or corrosion evident. Its been largely home maintained in current ownership with regular fluid changes and often run to temperature, but as the mileage indicates, it has been little used on the road. The carpets have faded a little over time, but they're not tatty. The cloth seats are showing signs of their fourty years, but again, are not scruffy, ripped or torn. This really is just a genuine, matching numbers and charming car with no lurking nightmares.Silverstone Auctions were recently pleased to sell another 2.7 MFi Porsche, in garage-found condition and 55,000 miles from new, for a sum close to £150,000. Surely this Targa, when measured against that car, and against its slightly bigger brother, the 2.7 RS (at c£450,000+) is worthy of similar merit when you consider its rarity and its place in the story of Porsche...
