DESCRIPTION
The Triumph Stag is a British car that was sold between 1970 and 1978 by the Triumph Motor Company, styled by the Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti. The majority of cars were fitted with a Borg-Warner 3-speed automatic transmission since the alternative was a derivative of the ancient Triumph TR2 gearbox. Other than the choice of transmissions there were very few factory-installed options. Electric windows, power steering and power-assisted brakes were standard. In its current ownership since 2004, this car is offered with body panels in all round good condition, including paint, cabin and hard and soft-tops. The subject of a substantial £3,500 spend with Britannia Motor Engineering upon purchase in 2004, the engine is reported to run smoothly and the 3-speed transmission performs as you would expect. This is an honest car with a reputed mileage of just 36,504 miles. There is insufficient early history to warrant this, but when you consider how little wear is evident to the leather and cloth seats, the carpets and the general presentation of the interior, it is possible that this mileage is genuine.
The presentation of the engine bay is a little more workmanlike, but it appears authentic and original, which is what you'd want from a Triumph Stag. The front chromework is in reasonable condition but would benefit from some light restoration at rear.
This Lot is sold with V5C registration document and MoT test certificate to January 2013.
According to the main enthusiast club in the UK, only approximately 9,000 Stags are believed to survive in the United Kingdom making this a rarer proposition than it once was. These cars are popular due to their performance, comparative rarity and Michelotti styling. We can see why...
