DESCRIPTION
Many saw the TR6 as the last of a breed of hairy-chested British sports cars, more than 94,000 TR6s were built, ninety per cent of them to US specification. The TR6 was a refined sports car. It featured pile carpets on floors and boot, plush-looking bucket seats, a lovely wooden dashboard and a full complement of instrumentation. In the US, it featured the six-cylinder engine that was carried over from the TR250, while the UK version had a more powerful fuel-injected engine from the TR5 that included the Lucas mechanical fuel injection system. Its power output was 150bhp and was considered to be quite something for a pushrod 2.5 engine in 1969.The TR6 continued the TR tradition of having an overdrive option which greatly enhanced the cars performance, it was Triumphs best selling car by the time production ended in 1976.
Finished in Mimosa Yellow with contrasting black interior and black hood, this particular TR6 was originally supplied by the then British Leyland dealer 'Henleys of Manchester' and delivered new on the 13th of February 1975 to a Dr G Daniels. With the roof down the twin exhausts are close enough to really enjoy the gruff fuel injected straight six. It is reported to fire on the button and soon settles to an even tickover. There are no signs of leaks from the engine, all fluid levels are correct and the motor is reported to run with superb oil pressure and without any rattles or smoke whatsoever.
Once underway this TR6 answers its throttle swiftly, with no flat spots and enough power to make coming out of corners fun and overtaking safe. The gearbox has a precise gear change shifting cleanly and mated to that superb engine delivers a fun wind in the hair driving experience that modern cars can only dream of.
An older restoration that has a photographic log, the body is reported to be corrosion free and the Mimosa yellow paintwork is excellent with a deep shine throughout. The chrome work looks stunning across the car and is complimented by the recent fitting of a new hood. Restored in the 90's, and meticulously maintained ever since, this TR6's bodywork is beautifully finished with no signs of rot or corrosion taking hold anywhere. The cockpit gives an impression of a sensibly used and well looked after car. The black vinyl seats are in great order, retaining their shape and colour with no stains or tears at all. A rare addition to this car is a factory hardtop which merely adds to this cars desirability all year round.
Sold with a fresh MOT and a bulging folder of recent receipts totalling £8300, 28 MOT certificates and a Heritage certificate ~ it is reassuring to find a car like this with strong evidence of diligent ownership throughout it's life. You can get TR6s for less but they wont be as nice - this one is ideal for the owner who wants to enjoy their TR6 immediately, without having to budget for any extra work! A truly superb classic motor car.
