SUMMARY
Resplendent in Squadron Blue, this magazine and book-featured Daimler Double-Six has been transformed by the addition of a manual gearbox.
DESCRIPTION
- A perfect blend of style, performance and rarity, only 372 right-hand drive examples of these elegant pillarless coupés were built, all with automatic transmission as a manual gearbox was not an option
- This Series II is powered by Jaguar's 5.3-litre fuel-injected V12 generating 285bhp at 5,750rpm which was sufficient to propel the independently sprung coupé to 60mph in 7.2 seconds and on to 150mph
- Comprehensively restored over the years commencing in 1991 and completed around 2009 with a detailed photographic record
- Our Jaguar enthusiast/engineer vendor often wondered what his sleek Squadron Blue Coupé would be like with the more sporty manual gearbox and decided one day, having carried out a similar conversion on his XJS, that's what he wanted to do
- A 4-speed manual gearbox from an XJ-S was sourced and installed with the whole process aided by our vendor's experience of a similar conversion and the car is now quicker and more enjoyable to hustle down country roads without the inevitable frustrations of a, slow to respond, automatic box
- Its unique appeal resulted in magazine articles and significantly, OBD 764P is featured in Jaguar XJ Series Saloons by Mark Sutherland (Foreword by Quentin Wilson) with images shot at Wappenbury Hall, former home of Sir William Lyons
- Finished in Squadron Blue with a black Everflex roof over a gently patinated tan leather interior and sitting on period-correct 'Kent' alloys
- Supplied with its Jaguar Heritage Certificate, a copy of Mark Sutherland's book, the restoration photographic record, its V5C, many older invoices and items of correspondence
