DESCRIPTION

The Alfa Romeo Spider was a roadster produced by the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo from 1966 to 1993. It is widely regarded as a design classic and it remained in production for almost three decades with only minor aesthetic and mechanical changes.

The first three series of the Spider were assembled by Pininfarina in Grugliasco and the fourth series in San Giorgio Canavese. The last Spider was produced in April 1993, it was also the last rear wheel drive Alfa Romeo produced before the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione was introduced.

1971 saw the Spider Veloce get a new, larger powerplant - a 1962cc unit - and consequently the name was changed from "1750 Spider Veloce' to "2000 Spider Veloce'. The 1600 Spider restarted production a year later and emerged as the "Spider 1600 Junior', it was in fact visually identical to the 1300.

The 1300 and 2000 cars were modified in 1974 and 1975 respectively to include two small seats behind the front seats, thus becoming a "two plus two" four seater. Also, between 1974 and 1976, the early-style stainless-steel bumpers were discontinued and replaced with black, rubber-clad units that were designed to meet the increasingly stringent North American crash requirements.

The pretty Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider offered for sale today is believed to be a genuine, circa 50,000 mile, example in period Primrose Yellow, which is complimented by an exceptional black leather interior and replica Momo Alfa Romeo wheels. It is pleasing on the eye, and, thanks to the larger powerplant it is also a fantastic car to drive.

Sold with UK V5C registration certificate and current MoT test certificate this is a really lovely period Alfa Romeo with bags of character and that all-important deep dish steering wheel. Offered without reserve this special Alfa is worthy of serious consideration today...
