1977 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV

Introduced in 1974 The Alfetta GT was a fastback coupé version of the Alfetta saloon. Fitted with a variant of the Alfa DOHC four these engines featured a chain driven 8-valve twin overhead cam cylinder head of cross-flow design. For 1976, with the final phasing out of the earlier 105 Series, the Alfetta GT became a whole new model range, with 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre versions. The GTV designation was initially reserved for the 2.0-litre top version.

The styling of the GTV, while distinctive, shared many design features derived from the Montreal, but translated down to a simpler and thus more marketable vehicle.

This 1977 Alfa Romeo Alfetta 2000 GTV is finished in beautiful ivory with a silver blue cloth interior and is a two-owner car having been with the last owner since 1978!

During this time the car was much loved and no expense had been spared in keeping the car roadworthy and looking good. In 1984 the car was sent to Allan Perry Garages in Nottingham for bodywork rectification. The renowned company Benalfa undertook further bodywork repairs in 1988 and 1992. Another visit to Allan Perry was required in 1996 and due to these regular bodywork maintenance intervals. As a result of this the car was kept up not only a high mechanical standard but also an excellent cosmetic standard as well.

By the end of 2001 the car was in need of major attention, rust was building up in all the usual Alfa places and an extensive restoration was undertaken. It was carried out to a high standard by Red Motori in Blandford. On their recommendation, Tony Williams based in Dorset, was then selected as the bodywork contractor. Based on a detailed work scope and a "fixed price' contract, work commenced in 2002. Progress was monitored on a regular basis. The meticulous preparation of the bodywork panels down to bare metal, including the doors and sills, the refitting of the windscreen and rear window, the priming of the body shell, the corrosion inhibiting of the box sections, were all carried out with a particular attention to detail. This delivered a result which surpassed all the previous work.

Unfortunately for the last seven years the car has been laid up in dry storage. However it has now been recommissioned and is ready to use once again with receipts of nearly £3k covering the latest bills for the full bare metal re-spray and also getting the alloy wheels powder coated.

This Italian gem is a really practical little classic, with its 5 speed gearbox and 128 bhp twin Cam engine you could be confused in thinking you were driving a much newer car.
