DESCRIPTION
The MGB Roadster was launched in 1962 and was regarded as a relatively modern design at the time it utilised a monocoque structure, instead of a "body on frame' construction. The lightweight design reduced manufacturing costs while adding to the vehicles overall strength. Wind up windows and a weather proof soft top came as standard and the comfortable cockpit offered decent legroom along with a good driving position. At the time it was launched the performance was considered brisk with a 0-60mph of around 11 secs and the handling was sporting and predictable. It was a showroom success for the Austin Rover Group.
The car on offer here is a freshly restored example with matching numbers. It was UK supplied as a right hand drive original Roadster. Finished in its original colour combination of Damask red with black cloth, it is a later 'rubber bumper' version which was designed to appease the American market at the time.
Complete with a fresh M.O.T the car shows what is believed to be a genuine 46,100 miles from new and it has a comprehensive history file. This tells us that the restoration was only completed in 2011 and included a complete engine rebuild with an unleaded conversion, new hood and tonneau, new stainless steel exhaust, new battery, electric fan, hoses, clutch master cylinder etc. (please see the history file at the auction as this work is too comprehensive to list here!)
As the pictures will show you (especially if you click on them to expand) the restoration is very detailed and the paintwork has been completed to a particularly high standard.
The car sits well, drives well and looks well, particularly with the hood down on the open road in the sunshine. Complete with new Minilite wheels and tyres, it is ready to be bought now at a sensible price and enjoyed next Spring. Don't miss out on this practical, reliable and affordable classic.
