1977 Ex works Talbot Sunbeam Ti Rally car

Peugeot gave its newest acquisition the name 'Talbot' and applied it to the Chrysler Sunbeam, a front engine, rear wheel drive hatchback that Chrysler had produced in 1976 with financial help from the British Government. The first performance Talbot Sunbeam arrived early in 1979; called the Sunbeam ti, the new car was powered by the 1600cc Avenger Tiger engine, including twin Weber carburettors, and developed a healthy 100bhp. The rally crowd took it to their hearts though, thanks to a plethora of off-the-shelf tuning parts and under the guidance of Des Odell, the Peugeot Talbot motor sport team was born and went on to conquer Fords stable of high achieving Escorts with the iconic Lotus Sunbeam.

First registered on the 4th of October 1977 to Chrysler UK Ltd, WAC 953S was one of the very first works Sunbeam rally cars. Paperwork indicates this particular car was a circuit race car and then subsequently converted to tarmac rallying. It was well known in the South of England back in the 1980s, winning both ASWMC and Southern championships. We are informed by the vendor of FIA paperwork outlining the cars original specification and its RAC competition log book.

Over recent years, this car has formed part of a private collection and as such this unique car is fresh to the UK market. This car will be sold with new FIA paperwork, a fresh MOT and a spares package, including an original set of four very rare original magnesium wheels and various suspension parts.
