DESCRIPTION

The 308 GTB was launched at the Paris Motor show in 1975 as a direct replacement for the Dino 246. Designed by Pininfarina with sweeping curves and aggressive lines, the 308 has gone on to become one of the most recognised Ferraris of all time.

Fitted with a 2.9 litre DOHC V8 engine with four Weber 40DCNF Carburettors that produced 255bhp, the 308 went from 0 to 60mph in 6.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 159 mph. In 1980, fuel injection was added to the 308 and power went down from 255 bhp to 214 bhp. However, two years later, four vales per cylinder were added giving quattrovalvole models 240bhp. The 308 was manufactured in both GTB and GTS forms from 1977 to 1985, before being replaced by the 328.

Offered here is the preferred carburettor model in the most delightful colour combination of Rosso red with Crema. Manufactured in 1978, this original UK right hand drive car has covered a genuine 43,500 miles supported by service invoices in the substantial history file. It was first registered to Maltin Car Concessionaires Ltd, Henley-on-Thames and then sold to a Mr Pierro Cassandro on 23rd April 1980, of Domus Ltd (Saudrini Restaurant) Brompton Road, London.

'BRP 264S' then went over to Hong Kong in the late '80s (probably during the first classic car boom!). The car benefited from a full exterior refresh in 1992 and interior refresh in 1997, for which there is a detailed invoice of work carried out accompanying the car.

In March 2000, the car returned to the UK. The vendor purchased the car in April 2004 and has owned it for the last 10 years.

The current owner is a prominent Ferrari collector and member of the Ferrari Owners' Club UK. He advises that during his ownership the car has been setup by Nick Cartwright and described as 'sharp' with no wallowing, which can be the case in early 308 models. The bodywork and interior are immaculate and the engine, we are told, is strong and in good order.

Supplied with a UK V5C, accompanying large detailed history file, fresh MoT and a service due prior to sale. Being the highly desirable dry sump, steel bodied, carburettor 308 GTB, it should prove to be a highly rewarding Ferrari to own, as well as being a great investment opportunity.
