1978 Ferrari 512BB

The Ferrari 512 BB was the second generation of the 365 GT4 BB to have the 12 cylinder boxer engine. Enzo Ferrari , contrary to his engineer's wishes, had delayed any mid-engine set-up, doubting the ability of his customer base to handle this configuration. The capacity was increased to nearly five litres and a dry sump fitted, then with suspension changes and various modifications Ferrari was back at number one in the supercar pecking order. The competence of the 512 BB was re-iterated by the worlds motoring press as many of them proclaimed this Ferrari as the best all-round Sports GT of the day in 1976.This car is one of only 929 right-hand drive 512 BB's produced by Ferrari. Its current owner is a world famous sportsman. The earliest documents show the Ferrari Modena Warranty Card dated 13th April 1978 with Maltin Car Concessionaires Ltd as the UK supplying dealer . A very extensive history file provides a comprehensive record of the £90,000 service and maintenance expenditure over the 49,000 miles covered. For approximately a decade main dealers, Modena, carried out most of the servicing before renowned specialist Nick Cartwright undertook some substantial mechanical work. The bodywork and interior were also refurbished. More recently, in September 2010, there is a £13,600 invoice from JDClassics on file. The cam belts and clutch were changed by Italia Autosport in January 2010 only a few hundred miles ago.As a footnote Eric Clapton recently took delivery of his new 458 and then enhanced it with Ferrari styling detail from his all time favourite - the 512 BB.
