It is not surprising that March Engineering totally dominated the 1978 Formula Two Championship, after all they had been building successful race cars for over a decade. Victory finally came at their pinnacle of motorsport, during the 1970 Spanish Grand Prix, when Jackie Stewart won in a March chassis. Vittorio Brambilla and Ronnie Peterson were the only other drivers to win Grand Prix for them in 1975 and 1976 respectively. They were now a constructor supplying customers with F1, F2, F3, Formula Ford and CanAm cars and running works teams in most of the Formulas .

In the 1978 European Formula Two Championship, the BMW Junior Team were using March 782s for Bruno Giacomelli and Marc Surer. Giacomelli won eight of the twelve rounds to become champion and consolidate March as the 'chassis to have'.For 1978, the French Maublanc Racing Team, ran the March 782 #16 for Jean-Pierre Jarier in rounds of the European Formula Two Championship. It was also driven by Jacques Laffite and Harald Ertl at Hockenheim. At the end of the season Jarier drove at the Premio Ciudad de Buenos Aires in Argentina in the Temporado , retiring with a gear linkage problem.

This car was purchased by Frank Sytner from Sean Walker in 2010 and fully prepared by world renowned single seater preparation experts, Simon Hadfield Motorsport.

In 2011, it was placed 2nd in its first race at the Donington Park round of the HSCC Formula Two pre-1979 race, after a very close contest at the front. This March 782 retains its original tub and is now beautifully prepared with a fresh and very strong Lester Owen prepared BMW engine. Without doubt, it is now the car to have in the pre-1979 Formula 2 series, together with a significant and known history from new and special BMW power.
