1978 VW Bus, Champagne Edition

The VW van has evolved to achieve "cult status' to the point where brand new ones are being supplied to the market for sums up to £30,000. Always associated with "surfers" these original vans are still a most practical "classic" proposition, and with many active and highly supportive clubs, you could be off doing something every weekend with perfect peace of mind as regards spares supply and mechanical back-up. The Champagne editions of certain Volkswagen models were special sales campaigns run by Volkswagen in 1977 and 1978 featuring limited edition colours and interiors.

Finished in its fantastic 70s colour scheme of Fuchsrot over Dattelbraun this original VW bus remained with its first owner in the dry state of California from 1978 to 2008 after which it was imported into the UK. We are informed by the vendor that there is a comprehensive service history including a detailed log indicating which service items were changed and at what mileage.

After arriving in the UK the bus was the subject of a bare metal re-spray. The vendor informs us that there is absolutely no rust anywhere, it has never been welded and is completely arrow straight with none of the usual waviness normally associated with restored VW buses. There is documentation to confirm the fitting of a brand new Type 4 1800cc engine in 2010 along with a pair of brand new 40mm downdraught twin choke Webers. The vendor also tells us that this engine has since covered less than 5000 miles.

The interior is in superb condition throughout, the rear seat has Z hinges so it folds flat to make a full width double bed. The middle seat can be removed if you wish to fit a table and use it as a day van. Since its restoration this Microbus has featured in Volksworld Camper and Bus and also Camper and Commercial. Sold with a new MOT this VW is an absolute gem, it's been amazingly maintained and cherished by its previous owners. Now it's ready to use and show, requiring absolutely no work at all.
