DESCRIPTION

The 308 GTB was launched at the Paris Motor show in 1975 as a direct replacement for the Dino 246. Designed by Pininfarina with sweeping curves and aggressive lines the 308 has gone on to become one of the most recognised Ferrari's of all time. The Targa topped 308 GTS version was introduced in 1977 and was made famous by the TV series "Magnum PI". Fitted with a 2.9 litre DOHC V8 engine fitted with four Weber 40DCNF Carburettors that produced 255bhp the 308 went from 0 to 60mph in 6.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 159 mph. In 1980 fuel injection was added to the 308 and power went down from 255 bhp to 214 bhp however two years later four vales per cylinder were added giving quattrovalvole models 240bhp. The 308 was manufactured in both GTB and GTS forms from 1977 to 1985 before being replaced by the 328.

"YST 123V" was supplied new to the Huxford group on 18th October 1979 for the sum of £18,019.52. Optional extras included air conditioning, wide wheels and foglamps. She was then purchased by Dougland Development Ltd (Mr Terence Hayland) in March 1980 and subsequently transferred to Mr Hayland's personal name shortly after. In May '89 she went on to be purchased by Mr John Woodford, the founder of Emblem Sports cars (Ferrari main dealers), and was the subject of a comprehensive rebuild. Mr Woodford kept her right through until his passing, when it was sold on by his wife in July 1999. Since November 2007 she has been part of a private Ferrari collection and during this time she has had a full brake and suspension rebuild, along with a cambelt change in 2012. In 2013 she was subject to a full bare metal respray in her original Chiaro Red. Upon stripping her for respray her body was found to be completely rust free. She sits on her correct 14 inch 'Cromodoro' alloy wheels and, being a 1979 car, is fitted with the desirable carburettor engine.

Supplied with a fresh MoT, current V5C and a comprehensive service history to substantiate the mileage of 48,516, this steel bodied carburettor model has to be worthy of consideration in this price guide as Ferrari's of this era continue to rise in value.
