1979 Ferrari 308 GTS

The 308 GTB was launched at the Paris Motor show in 1975 as a direct replacement for the Dino 246. Designed by Pininfarina with sweeping curves and aggressive lines, the 308 has gone on to become one of the most recognised Ferraris of all time. Fitted with a 2.9 litre DOHC V8 engine with four Weber 40DCNF Carburettors that produced 255bhp, the 308 went from 0 to 60mph in 6.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 159 mph. In 1980, fuel injection was added to the 308 and power went down from 255 bhp to 214 bhp. However, two years later, four vales per cylinder were added giving quattrovalvole models 240bhp. The 308 was manufactured in both GTB and GTS forms from 1977 to 1985, before being replaced by the 328.

This 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS was sold new by Maranello Concessionaires to a Mr J.R.C Smiley of London on 11th October 1979. Finished in Rosso Corsa with Nero hide interior, this preferred carburettor model boasts a complete service history from new. The original book pack and stamped service book document early servicing intervals and a large folder of bills show continued maintenance over the years. Interestingly, this particular 308 was factory specified with very rare 14" Campagnolo wheels that are still on the car today. 25 previous MoT certificates substantiate a total mileage of only 40,121 miles from new.

Most recently the car has benefitted from significant investment and restoration. A professional mechanical and cosmetic programme has been carried out under the stewardship of Ferrari specialist Tim Walker of Walkersport. The bodywork was painted in its original colour of Rosso Corsa and the interior was re-trimmed by Graham Dean to exacting specification. In July 2014 the engine had a full cambelt service and the brakes, suspension, exhaust system and wiring system were attended to. Supplied with its original warranty card, owner's wallet, jack pack, tonneau, spare wheel and impeccable history folder, this must be one of the finest 308s on the market today. As an original UK right-hand drive example this GTS is extremely collectable. A mere 184 examples were ever sold in right-hand drive and far fewer still survive on UK roads today.
