1980 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce

The Alfa Romeo Spider is a roadster that was produced from 1966 to 1993 with popular appeal earning a reputation as a design classic. These models, largely assembled by Pininfarina in Grugliasco remained in production for almost three decades with only minor aesthetic and mechanical changes.

The engine was a 1570cc variant of the Alfa Romeo twin cam four cylinder engine, had dual Weber two-barrel side-draft carburettors, and produced 109hp though latterly, a 1779cc engine variant called the 1750, and the 1300 Junior with its 1290cc engine were introduced. The cabins of these roadsters was sparsely fitted but included five speed manual transmission, disc brakes and independent front suspension delivering a fun and spritely driving experience. The series two cars from 1970 also saw the introduction of the larger 1962cc power-plant producing 132hp as is present in our car.

The 2000 Spider offered for sale here today is in immaculate order following significant restorative works amounting to more than £12,000. With a believed genuine 25,000kms from new and essentially only one owner (the second being the professional restorer who undertook the work), we understand this car to be the finest remaining 2000 Spider Veloce's available for purchase today. First registered in Germany in 1980, the car has resided with the same owner as he has lived in Germany, the UK and Italy. The car sports its original bodywork and interior, though each has seen work undertaken including a new coat of White paint since the original had faded, new mohair soft top in black to complement the interior, new carpeting throughout, four new Michelin tyres as it would have worn in 1980, and a significant mechanical overhaul including brakes, engine rebuild, new clutch and gearbox meaning this car now drives better than new!
