DESCRIPTION
Imported from the US in early 2015. Only 6,200 miles
Distinctive 'Koenig-style' bodywork fitted in period
Nicely finished in Rosso Corsa, with a very tidy Nero interior
Recommissioned and serviced with new belts at Carrs of Exeter (Ferrari) in October 2015
Accompanied by its original Ferrari book pack and tools
The 308 GTB was launched at the Paris Motor show in 1975 as a direct replacement for the Dino 246. Designed by Pininfarina with sweeping curves and aggressive lines, the model has gone on to become one of the most recognised Ferraris of all time particularly by viewers of the hit TV series "Magnum PI" whose hero, played by Tom Selleck, was frequently seen in a Targa topped 308 GTS version. Fitted with a 2.9- litre DOHC V8 engine fitted with four Weber 40DCNF Carburettors producing 255bhp, the 308 accelerated from 0 to 60mph in 6.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 159 mph. In 1980, fuel injection became standard and two years later four valves per cylinder were added, giving Quattrovalvole models 240bhp. The 308 was manufactured in both GTB and GTS forms from 1977 to 1985, before being replaced by the 328.
This particular very low mileage example is presented in the most popular colour combination of Rosso Corsa with a Nero leather interior. It was originally supplied on 27.03.1984 by official Ferrari dealer Auto Becker in Dusseldorf to its first owner Rolf Rindolph. Herr Rindolph ordered his 308 complete with the factory fitted options of air conditioning, electric windows and a rear aerofoil. It is believed that the 'Koenig' body styling this car features was also supplied and fitted prior to delivery by the supplying dealer Auto Becker. It appears that Herr Rindolph had an appetite to have all available options supplied and fitted, making his Ferrari an even more distinctive sight whilst piloting it around the streets of Dusseldorf.
So appealing was this 308 QV, that whilst he was serving in Germany, a US forces dentist, Romey Buzlea, having spotted the car, persuaded Herr Rindolph to sell it to him. Back home in Florida, Romey was developing a collection of cars and felt this particular example could only enhance his collection still further. Subsequently, on the 7th March 1985, with the odometer indicating only 3,100 miles, the Ferrari was formally imported into the US. Here it remained for a further 30 years with very little use and covered, coincidentally, an additional 3,100 miles. Our vendor and current custodian of this remarkable car imported it back to the UK in early 2015. Having been stored for a number of years and infrequently used, the Ferrari was not at its best with flat tyres and seized calipers etc. so Ferrari dealer, Carrs of Exeter were instructed to fully recommission this rather special 308. Contained in the history file are invoices dated October 2015 detailing a comprehensive service, cam and ancillary belts replaced, and the brakes fully overhauled. Additionally, new Pirelli P7 tyres were sourced and fitted.
It will be supplied with its original Ferrari book pack, tool kit, 2 keys and V5C. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a fantastic three-owner, 6,200 miles, 308 GTB QV that's subtly different and very sensibly guided, and would be a great entry into Ferrari ownership.
