SUMMARY
Only 28,953 miles from new and simply delightful.
DESCRIPTION
- The Spur has four-inches more rear legroom than the Silver Spirit
- Incredibly low mileage of 28,953 at time of inspection
- Finished in Masons black with black top-roll, beige leather and Burr Walnut veneers
- Comprehensive service history. MOT until September 2021
- Full Krown rust protection recently applied
- The full complement of Rolls-Royce cut-glass decanters and tumblers
- The first Rolls-Royce to feature a retractable 'Spirit of Ecstasy'
- Just requires a chauffeur for that totally decadent period experience
Typically Rolls-Royce in so far as it represented evolution rather than revolution, the Silver Spirit and its long-wheelbase Silver Spur sibling were based on the preceding Silver Shadow II (and LWB Wraith II) to which they bore a distinct family resemblance. The Shadow's floor pan was retained and power-train differences were minimal, the newcomers' chief advance over their immediate forebear being the heavily revised and improved type of rear suspension that had first appeared on the company's two-door models. The styling too came in for a revision, with a lower waistline, increased glass area and a more-modern angular look; rectangular headlights graced the front of a Rolls-Royce for the first time, and the oft-changed radiator became wider and squatter. Inside, the Crewe firm's exemplary standards of equipment and finish were maintained, the most noticeable change being the adoption of separate rear seats and the reinstatement of folding picnic tables.
An incredibly low recorded mileage, at the time of inspection, of just 28,953 shows that this period long-wheelbase limousine has clearly been cherished throughout its life. All of its original accoutrements remain in place, from the full sheepskin floor mats to its Rolls-Royce cut glass decanters and tumblers neatly tucked away in the rear of the front seats just below the Walnut picnic tables, period decadence that so many folk could only dream about. I would suggest that this beautiful Rolls-Royce would almost certainly have been maintained by the owner's chauffeur, however, I can report that as we speak he has failed to replenish the whisky!!
This superb example is finished in Masons Black with Gold coach lines and a classic RR interior in Beige Hide. The original build spec. shows a Black Everflex roof with RR logos to the rear quarters, fascia top roll in black hide and lower roll in Beige hide. The specification was clear that the hide should be of the smoothest grain and the interior veneers needed to be a particular shade of Burr Walnut. Instructions also recorded that the wheels were to be sent in their entirety to the Avon Tyre Company to be properly balanced and matched! Even the air conditioning sensor in the roof had to be chrome-plated! This was clearly a very pedantic client who knew what he/she wanted. Of late, a more modern sound system has been fitted however the original has been retained should the car's next custodian wish to revert to absolute factory specification.
The history file includes a full complement of hand and service books, various invoices from P & A Wood and Calvert & Wells, numerous MOT Certificates with the latest being current until September 2021 and, more importantly, a recent invoice from 'Krown' of Tipton for a full rust protection treatment.
In stunning condition throughout, this has to be one of the lowest mileage examples on the road today - I can hear the tumblers being filled now
