1986 Mercedes-Benz 420SL

The Mercedes W107 was built as 'junior' version of the Mercedes V8 Roadster. The production started with the 380SL, then, in 1981, after just a year in production, the engine was changed for a small-bore, long stroke V8 of the same capacity. This caused a slight drop in power, however it improved the fuel economy. In 1985 the capacity was increased to 4.2 litres, which restored power figures to 218bhp.

This car is the more desirable 1986, 4.2 Litre model. Having had just four owners from new and covered only 59,000, the car is presented in great, honest and original condition. The car does show signs of age, however it is in perfectly useable and presentable condition. As a result it would be ideal for a running restoration.After being stored for many the car has had a serious mechanical renovation to ensure that it runs as intended. The fuel system IE metering unit was restored, fuel pumps replaced, filters replaced and at the same time the fuel tank was cleansed and sealed. The radiator was replaced and the engine was also the subject of a full service. The tyres were replaced and the brakes have been rebuilt including the calipers themselves.

Some cars just get better with age and the W107 series Mercedes-Benz is fast becoming one of the most reliable and sought after collectable classics.
