DESCRIPTION

In bike racing, Grand Prix is seriously cool. The escalation between manufacturers has seen to it that faster and wilder 500cc two-strokes are making heroes or victims of their riders. Racers like Kenny Roberts and Eddie Lawson, Randy Mamola, Wayne Gardner swan through the paddock exuding a "don't mess' attitude that every red-blooded male wants to emulate. The bikes are outrageous, the riders are legends. In 1984 to capitalise on their GP achievements, Yamaha released the RD500 V4 two stroke replica Racer. It was considered awesome until the following year when Suzuki launched their incredible RG 500 Gamma Race replica...Inspired by the 1984 RG500 "Gamma" Grand Prix motorcycle and capitalizing on Suzuki's seven consecutive constructors' title wins in the 500cc class, the Gamma was powered by a two stroke, rotary valve, twin crank, square-four engine displacing 498 cubic centimetres. The power output was 93.7bhp at 9,500rpm. The engine employed liquid-cooling by means of a front-mounted radiator with a thermostatic control and Suzuki employed an aluminium box section frame with castings for the headstock and swinging arm for the Gamma. The front suspension had pre-load adjust and an anti-dive system called "POSI DAMP" to control the tendency of a motorcycle's nose to dive under braking. At the rear the full-floater suspension design used dual-swing arms. In all, the motorcycle weighed just 154kg dry.The motorcycle offered today underwent an engine change at some point though no history is available as to why. In all other aspects this is an unmolested original 1986 model. The body panels, paintwork, frame and wheels are all very good and the bike starts easily and runs nicely.A rare opportunity to purchase a motorcycle from an era of two stroke madness...
