- For the collector-buyer that knows their Cosworths, this is the car
The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth was launched at the 1985 Geneva Motor Show and was the first Ford to wear the 'Cosworth' badge. Only 5,545 were built to homologate the car for Group A Touring Car racing and were based on the 3-door Sierra bodyshell but fitted with a 2.0-litre turbo engine of now legendary repute. It featured a double overhead-camshaft, 16-valve engine with a Garret T3 turbo and intercooler, giving a reliable 204bhp which enabling a top speed of 150mph and 0-60 in just 6.8 seconds.
This UK-supplied, right-hand drive car was supplied new by Sandicliffe Ford, and it still wears their original number plates. Described by our vendor, who has owned the car since 1995 - so he should know, as immaculate, and in outstanding, untouched (never welded) condition with a genuine 40,300 miles, which is supported by a full-service history and some paperwork. The paintwork, all panels and the glass are said to be all original to the car, plus there are two keys, and the original stereo and parcel shelf have been kept safe to accompany it. Recently serviced with a new cambelt and sparkplugs, this is a fit and extremely well-preserved Fast Ford.
The bodywork is indeed in superb order and the original colour of Diamond White is as crisp as ever. The mechanicals have all been checked over and no modifications have been made to this factory-original car contrasting with the many similar cars that ended up with modified turbos, suspension, and trim. As such, it is highly collectable today and the Sierra Cosworth has now been recognised as a real future classic, with many experts predicting sustained long-term growth in value - like the limited-edition fast Fords of previous generations.
The indicated mileage is 40,300 and this is backed up by service records, and its commensurate condition. A superb opportunity to own a very special example of a real 'blue oval' icon.
